Gear Up For Your Run

Why use running-specific clothing?

It's tempting to throw on a pair of sweatpants and your favorite t-shirt to go out for a run. But, if the weather isn't perfect, or you plan on running a long distance, your clothes can go from light and comfortable to sweat-soaked and heavy. If you find yourself in this situation, it might be time to check out some women's running clothing from brands that specialize in helping athletes stay comfortable while they work out.

Most running clothing is woven to wick moisture away from your skin, keeping you dry and comfortable. In addition, running apparel is usually designed with flat seams to reduce chafing. To help you find the best options, we carry a wide selection of fits and sizes.

Start Off With the Right Sports Bra

Finding the right sports bra can be challenging, but we carry a wide variety of styles and sizes to make it a little easier. Sort by size to find bras designed to support you, or you can decide based on impact level. Sports bras are designed for low impact, medium impact, or high impact. If you are thinking of using your sports bra for a low impact activity like walking or yoga, something with thin straps and less fabric would be a good option. These bras are usually cooler, but do not offer as much support as medium or high-impact bras would. Medium and high impact bras are better for activities like running, aerobics, or training, but they work well for low-impact activities as well.

A few popular choices are the Nike Pro Core Bra, which is designed to be multipurpose, or the Under Armour HeatGear Alpha Bra. Both bras feature a racerback design, which allows you to move freely. The tight fit and wide straps add support. Nike Dri-FIT technology and women's Under Armour Heatgear are at work in the Pro Core Bra, and Alpha Bra respectively. Dri-FIT is designed to wick sweat away from skin, keeping you dry and comfortable. Heatgear is similar, working best in temperatures from 75 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It wicks sweat away from your skin to keep you cool and dry.

A few other popular options to check out are the Moving Comfort Fiona Sport Bra, adidas Supernova Racer Back Bra, and ASICS Adjust Bra. Moving Comfort is a lesser- known brand, but not to be underestimated. Their designs are made to feel seamless and fit well through each movement. The Fiona Sport Bra fits securely with a hook closure in the back and straps that are similar in design to a typical bra.

Layer Up

For every type of weather, we have your back with everything from tank tops to t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, and more. A few popular options are racerback tanks like the ASICS Rib Racerback Tank, because they allow a wide range of movement, keep you dry, and often include reflective accents for safety. For an everyday t-shirt that sits close to your skin, keeps you dry, and glides smoothly over skin, try the Nike Dri-FIT Knit Short Sleeve T-Shirt.

For a looser fit and sporty look, check out women's adidas running clothing. Shirts like the adidas Response Long Sleeve T-Shirt feature a comfortable, loose fit, but also have running- specific features like Climalite to keep you cool and dry.

For chilly days, pick up a jacket or outer layer like the Nike Dri-FIT Element Hoodie or Under Armour Coldgear 1/2 Zip. Both options are designed to look great and keep you warm in cold conditions.

Find the Best Fit

When it comes time to pick a pair of pants or shorts to run in, the options can be daunting. We carry a number of fits from compression to loose so you can find a pair that works for you.

A few popular women's running tights include the CW-X Stabilyx Tights, and the Under Armour Heatgear Fly-By Compression Leggings. CW-X Stabilyx is incorporated in the pants to support your joints and muscles. Compression is a very tight fit that some women report speeds muscle recovery, and lessens pain after running.

For slightly warmer weather, try out capris designed to keep you dry and cool like the Nike Dri-FIT Tech Capris. Otherwise, check out women's running shorts like the popular Nike Tempo Shorts or ASICS 4.5” Everysport Shorts. These shorts are loose, but designed to glide seamlessly over skin and stay dry. They also work well as a layering piece if you prefer extra coverage.

The Finishing Touch

When you have your go-to running outfit assembled, take a look at a few useful accessories. For added comfort, check out socks designed with their own cushioning and flat seams to keep feet from chafing. Keep sweat out of your eyes with a headband or hat, or monitor your progress with a waterproof heartrate monitor and watch.

Don' t Forget the Shoes

Tie the look together with a pair of running shoes, designed to keep you running comfortably. Cushioned, supportive running shoes are made to absorb shock, and are meant to help you avoid injury from stress on your feet and joints. Check out women's running shoes from top brands like ASICS, Nike, and Brooks.
